Social media giant, Twitter appointed an engineer Parag Agrawal. He an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay now became its Chief Technology Officer, according to an update. Twitter CTO position earlier was taken by Adam Messinger – left the company in 2016, according to CNBC on Thursday.

This announcement – Agrawal as Twitter CTO came in 2017. He completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2011. As an engineer for ads, he joined Twitter in October 2011 and recently, he has the title of Distinguished Software Engineer.

His career earlier joining Twitter include research internships at AT&T, Yahoo, and Microsoft. In Twitter, his contributions include exponential increase in relevance of Twitter user tweet timelines by using Artificial Intelligence.

AI also helps Twitter in safeguarding abuse on the social network. “In his capacity as CTO, he focused on scaling a cohesive machine learning and AI approach to our consumer and revenue product and infrastructure teams,” a Twitter spokesman told CNBC.

Twitter will also hire a Social Science Director in an attempt to “increase the collective health, openness, and civility of public conversation” on its platform, it announced this week. This is not the first time Twitter fails to have CTO for a while. Greg Pass – first CTO joined in 2008 and left the social media giant in 2011.

Twitter further made an announcement to announce blue tick mark verification for all. “The intention is to open verification to everyone. And to do it in a way that’s scalable, where [Twitter] is not in the way and people can verify more facts about themselves and we don’t have to be the judge or imply any bias on our part,” India Today quotes him as saying.
